Controlling mind is difficult. There is no magic pill once taken can control the mind until it ceases thinking. Every thoughts creeps up from the mind must to be governed expect sleeping hours because ego does not exist while sleeping. We should practice mind to change the direction of thinking. For this we must have ability to discriminate the things. This ability is called intellect or intelligence.

What is intelligence? Distinguishing real from unreal is intelligence. for example, Sun rises in the east and sets in the west is unreal; really sun never rises or sets, only because of earth revolves on its own, it appears to be as sun rises and sets. This discriminating ability is intelligence. Intellect has power of discriminating things and decisive in nature.

By educating ourselves we can increase our intelligence level. Only through this intelligence we can capture the powers of mind: attention, selection and rejection. Then it is possible to change the direction of minds thinking. Happiness is achieved only when mind functions under the control of intelligence.

Mind has power of attention, selection and rejection; it is indecisive in nature. It is empowered by small self called ego, the creator of ‘I’ feeling. Its motive is to gratify senses by deriving pleasures from the objects. It is king of senses.

Mind through our senses runs after objects to get pleasure and gratify senses. If the senses are delighted by the pleasure of one particular object then it longs for their repetition. If the desire is fulfilled it is called joy; if not it is called sorrow.

Mind is indecisive in nature, if it is left to act on its own; it keeps on moving from one object to another in search of pleasure. Its motive is to gratify senses. Mind is unable to discriminate the pleasure whether it is good or bad.

If we are able to capture the powers of mind, attention, selection and rejection, then we can command the mind to do what we need. It can be achieved by constant study on modifications of mind. For that we should practice to watch the behavior of mind in different situations, without attaching to mind.

Mind is disturbed either positively or negatively by words we hear, visual we see, smell, even weather we feel. When we hear a bad word it stir up our anger and consequently unpleasant action emerge. If we happen to see a person who betrayed us at hat moment our mind will be like volcano. If we don’t have self control emotions take over us then it will be a bitter experience and leave a permanent impression in our mind. Good smell, Pleasant weather takes us to our old happy memories like childhood days.
To keep our mind in a happy state we cannot order others to say nice words or whenever I open my eyes only good persons should come to my sight or weather should be always be pleasant.
These things and more are off our hands and cannot be controlled by us, but reacting to these things is in our hands. Generally in an unexpected situation we have three ways to act fight, flight, and freeze. There is fourth way if we have faith in god and believe that he who governs everything then we should think that this situation too came to me with thy blessing and with patience and tolerance I should get along. Accept the situation as it comes on our way and neglecting all emotions that creeps up while being in that situation. However we have to react for all situations. If we can get along the situation by remaining silence then silence is our reaction; if we have to speak say nice words which will not who hear them; if we have to act in some other manner again that should not wound others in that situation. The only thing is that our reactions should in no way wound others heart. Here we balance our mind with act of obeying god.

Mind is a thoughts producing machine. It is important to maintain it properly. When desire arises and if it is fulfilled it is joy; if not fulfilled it is sorrow. Mind with joy is a healthy and with sorrow is stressful mind.

In this world one cannot expect every desire will be fulfilled. When a desire is unfulfilled, frustrations, anger, inability and various thoughts will creep up and paralyze the mind this is called stress. A stressful person cannot concentrate on his day to day activities. Even it may rein his character. Then it slows down the function of mind, an imbalance is created. This imbalance should not be neglected. Giving proper outlet for the emotions which aroused due to unfulfilled desire is called balancing mind. Outlet can be pilgrim tour, arts, entertainment, sports, as our choice. If outlet is sports it is very good for both mind and body.

One can ask if I am in a depressed situation how can I think of outlet. At the moment when your desire is not fulfilled think in this way: “God I believe in you, I wished this thing; tried utmost to achieve but I could not get it. With the small knowledge I could not understand which is good and bad for me, thy knows all and I beg thy mercy to do the good for me, and what happen know may be against my wish but I accept it as your blessings”. This prayer will definitely direct your mind to think in a way ‘how to recover from this sorrow’.

I believe in Guru Ragavendra; I believe in fate; I believe that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. I believe that if I help someone this moment in return it will definitely fetch me a good benefit but when will it come to be? At what time it will come to me? I don’t know and I don’t want to know, let thy take care of it. Everyday I beg thy mercy to get along bitter situation. I don’t know what will come to me next moment and how should I react to it. I beg thy mercy to guide me in an unexpected situation. Will thy hear my prayer? I surrender my ego at thy feet, so I believe thy will hear me.
